The NHS urges people to be vigilant for signs of dementia in loved ones during the Christmas season, as diagnosis rates are at a three-year high. Early detection is crucial for timely support and intervention.

The NHS Mental Health Director highlights that family gatherings during Christmas provide an opportunity to observe potential signs of dementia, which might have been overlooked before.

NHS figures reveal an increase in dementia diagnoses, with 41,000 more people aged over 65 diagnosed in November 2023 compared to the same period the previous year. The increase is attributed to NHS initiatives, including assessing older adults in care homes.
